Dustin Echard won the West Virginia light heavyweight title in just his ninth pro fight. Echard won the title with a nasty third round knockout of Eric Watkins.
This highly anticipated fight was originally scheduled for last summer but a injury delayed the bout. The fight pitted a boxer, Watkins, against the big punching Echard.
In this bout the puncher got to the boxer and stopped his opponent. Watkins started out strong winning the first round but Echard made adjustments and took over the fight after the first round by using his jab and uppercut.
Echard expected the early flurry from Watkins and knew if he could withstand the pressure he would be able to win the fight.
Echard (9-0 6 KO) landed some hard right hands but Watkins showed his toughness by taking some of the shots before being put down for good.
The win is the sixth in just over a year for Echard and he was happy that the hard work he put in paid off. The win puts Echard in a nice spot moving forward.
