Showtime Boxing will televise a three fight card from The Monroeville Convention Center on April 18. The main event will pit Rod Salka against Alexei Collado and the televised opener will feature Sammy Vasquez against Juan Rodriguez. The third fight will feature blue chip prospect Felix Diaz.
Salka will be looking to bounce back from a robbery against Ricardo Alvarez, also shown by Showtime. Salka dominated every facet of the fight and was denied victory by three blind judges. The win was handed to Alvarez because he is the older brother of boxing superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez. Salka will seek redemption, again on a national stage, against the unbeaten Collado.
Collado (18-0 16 KO) has the glossy record and the potential to be a good fighter but Salka (18-3 3 KO) is a dangerous step up. Collado has scored a lot of early round knockouts but he shouldn't plan on stopping the durable Salka, who has rarely touched the mat. He will also have to deal with Salka's slick boxing and movement.
Collado is the "house" fighter, he is promoted by Iron Mike Promotions, but will be going into Salka's backyard. This will be a very interesting fight and will propel the winner closer to a title.
The televised opener will feature Monessen prospect Sammy Vasquez Jr. against Juan "The Beast" Rodriguez (11-0 5 KO). The fight will be for the WBC Fecarbox title. Vasquez Jr. (13-0 9 KO) impressed Iron Mike Promotions the last time out by getting off the canvas to knockout, then undefeated, Berlin Abreu. That fight got him a deal with Iron Mike Promotions and they have delivered results quickly getting Vasquez on television for the first time and getting him a shot at a minor title.
Rodriguez has an undefeated record but Vasquez Jr. will be his toughest test to date.
There will be an added treat of getting to see former Olympic Gold medal winner Felix Diaz (14-0 8 KO) take another step in his pro career.
