Jason Bergman will still step into the ring tomorrow night at The Meadows Racetrack and Casino but it will not be against Justin Jones. Jones pulled out of the fight and Bergman found out he was fighting Akhror Muralimov tomorrow night, July 26, 2014.
Muralimov is an undefeated fighter, at 15-0 with 12 wins inside the distance, who hails from Uzbekistan but now lives in Houston, Texas. He has been much more active than Jones, fighting twice in 2013 and five times in 2012, and represents a step up. The fighters are about the same size and there is far more video of Muralimov on YouTube so the switch of opponent may actually help, not hurt, Bergman.
The style change may help Bergman (23-10-2 16 KO) to because Muralimov describes himself as a offensive fighter and although he has a nice knockout record two of his last three fights have gone to the scorecards. This could help the big punching Bergman who has knocked out his last three opponents in a combined five rounds.
This fight will be for Bergman's NABA USA title that he won by knocking out Buster Douglas protege John L. Smith in one round back in 2013. This will be the second defense of the title, the first being a TKO of former Olympian Devin Vargas earlier this year.
This is a very big fight for Bergman who could get a top 15 ranking in the world with a win.
Doors open at 6 p.m. and the fights get underway at 7:30 p.m.
