While I took a healthy little nap a lot happened in the boxing world. I am going to round up all the rumors here. We are going to start off with the Golden Boy PPV be put together for July 30.
The fights that have appear to be a go for that card are as follow:
Chris John vs Daniel Ponce De Leon: This is a good fight and one that I want to see. John-Yuriorkis Gamboa would be much better, but this isn't a bad fight in its own right.
Style wise this fight is very appealing. John is the much better boxer, but PDL has made some adjustments and is fighting at a higher level then before. The key here is going to be the power of PDL. If he can get to John he could win.
James Kirkland vs Nobuhiro Ishida II: Then there is this fight. Kirkland, as we all know, was knocked out in shocking fashion by the light punching Ishida.
This rematch is what it is and what it is isn't very good. Kirkland isn't going to get his chin busted up again by Ishida. The fact that Golden Boy is putting this on PPV is just silly. Ishida pulled out a miracle really and it isn't happening again.
I have said before that I would like Ishida to cash in on the Kirkland win. He is 35-years-old, and frankly isn't going to get another shot at the big time.
As for the main event rumors have it that it will indeed be Erik Morales. As I have talked about before it appears that this fight will be a Marcos Maidana rematch or a terrible fourth fight with Marco Antonio Barrera.
Humberto Soto will fight on June 4 or June 25
It appears that Soto will be back in Mexico fighting Daniel Estrada. Estrada is 25-2-1 with 19 KO's, and is very fun to watch. He went 3-1-1 last year losing to Reyes Sanchez.
The draw was a technical draw against Reyes Velazquez. Estrada was last in the ring this past March and got a win over over journeymen Arturo Gomez.
This is a fight that Soto should win rather easily as he is just to skilled for Estrada. Estrada is fun to watch, but doesn't have any great amount of skill or anything. (Boxingscene.com)
Librado Andrade and Enrique Ornelas will headline on May 6
Brothers Andrade and Ornelas will be fighting in seprate bouts on May 6 at the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indo, California. Andrade is going to fight Aaron Pryor Jr.
The fight will be shown by Telefutura. I am a little bumed out that this isn't a Friday Night Fight main event, because I really like Andrade and this fight would probably be put on there.
The fight itself isn't very good, but Andrade can is making his light heavyweight debut. This is a decent introduction into the division, and it makes sense as Andrade just can't beat the top men at 168.
Ornelas has yet to find an opponent. (Fightnews.com)
