Pittsburgh boxing is getting off to a fast start in 2012 as 25-year-old Adah, PA. light heavyweight Tommy Karpency (21-2-1 14 KO) will travel to Cardiff to take on WBO champion Nathan Cleverly (23-0 11 KO) in a title fight.
Karpency fought just once in 2011 destroying Andre Hemphill in the first round in Harrisburg. When Cleverly and Karpency lock horns on Febuary 25 it will have been almost a year since the Hemphill fight.
This will be the second fight abroad for Karpency. He went to Germany in May of 2010 and went the distance in a loss to Karo Murat. Murat then faced Cleverly and was TKO'ed in round 10.
This will be an uphill battle for Karpency as Cleverly is viewed as the future ruler at 175 pounds. Karpency does have the experience of fighting a young up-and-coming fight on his home turf.
