Saunders is coming off a loss to Gregory Soszynski (21-1-1 10 KO). That fight was for the IBF North American light heavyweight title. Before the loss Saunders was on a two fight win streak.

Alvarez is riding a seven fight win streak and won the vacant WBO NABO light heavyweight title with a KO-1 over Emiliano Cayetano (21-3 12 KO).  This will be the fifth straight fight Alvarez has had at The Bell Center.
