Rod Salka jumped up two weights last night to face the best 140 pound fighter and one of the best pound for pound fighters in the world. The weight difference was to much as Salka was knocked out for the first time in his career against 140 pound kingpin Danny Garcia. The first round was fairly quite but it was evident there was a big size difference between the men.
The second round started the same as the first until Garcia caught Salka with a heavy shot, but to Salka's credit he didn't go down, that badly hurt him. Garcia poured on pressure and Salka was forced to take a knee. Salka, although fighting to weight classes up, wasn't going to back down and after pounding his chest engaged in a fire fight but was caught with a wide left hook that put him down for good.
The loss is a setback for Salka but there is no shame in losing to the top fighter two weight classes above you. Salka will now move back down to his regular weight, regroup, and hit the comeback trail.
