Tommy Karpency fought this past Saturday, November 17, 2012, against Andrzej Fonfara and injured his right arm when he fell in the seventh round. The IBO title was on the line and it marked the second straight time that Karpency was fighting for a world title.

After a rough first round that saw Karpency get decked twice he fought his way back into the fight and was ahead on the scorecards 57-55 on two of the judges’ cards while Fonfara was leading 57-55 on the third.

After falling in the seventh round Karpency was unable to fight on but after talking to him via Facebook the injury is not serious enough to require surgery:

Arm is ok...When I went down, my arm got really hot and started to tingle...I had trouble lifting it and couldn't go...It was a pinched nerve...Feels ok now, other than some weakness lingering.

That's a good sign as Karpency put on a very good showing and should find himself in a meaningful fight very soon.
