Will Paul Spadafora be in Floyd Mayweather's Future?
It appears that Paul Spadafora will be taking on Johan Perez on November 30th at The Mountaineer Casino in Chester, West Virginia according to Fightnews.com. The fight will be for the interim WBA welterweight title.
The interesting part of news here is that this will be a Golden Boy promotions card and it appears that Spadafora (48-0-1 19 KO) could be in line for a Floyd Mayweather fight.
The potential of a Spadafora-Mayweather fight stems from the sparring video you see above where Spadafora gave Mayweather some issues. It is known that Mayweather has his greatest struggles against slick southpaws.
Mayweather and his camp claim that he was out of shape and out of the ring for a long time when that video was shot. This video is also 14 years old.
The main storylines would be this video and the fact that Spadafora has been undefeated longer than Mayweather but I have a few concerns with this potential fight.
Would the public be willing to shell out cash to see a 38-year-old pure boxer take on the best pure boxer in the world? I don't know and anyone who follows boxing knows that TMT only makes the fights that make him the most cash.
Will the sparring video from 14 years ago get people to believe that Spadafora can pull the upset? I don't know about that either. Spadafora is a slick southpaw but how much of that speed has he retained since 1999 and how out of shape was Mayweather?
If Spadafora gets past Perez (17-1-1 12 KO) which isn't a gimme fight would you be interested in seeing Spadafora clash with "Money" Mayweather?
